Etymology:

Named in honour of L.A. de Bougainville (1729-1811) a French navigator.

Botanical name:

Bougainvillea glabra Choisy ( B. spectabilis var. glabra Hook.)

Bougainvillea, Baganbilas.

Flowers the bracts, purplish-red.

Description:

 

Large shrubs or woody stout climbers. Leaves broadly ovate-laneolate, 4-10 cm long, rounded, acute to acuminate at apex. Flower the bracts purplish-red, broadly ovate to oval, sub-cordate at the base, 2-4 cm long. Fruits turbinate, 5-ribbed, glabrous.
