Wild in North-east India . Cultivated in Forest Research Institute, Dehra Dun.

Digonestic features:

Fruit dark purple when ripe.

Description:

A medium-sized evergreen tree. Bark nearly white to grey or greyish-brown. Leaves crowded at the end of the branches, 7.5-17 x 2-5 cm, oblong to elliptic-lanceolate or elliptic-oblong, shortly acuminate, narrowed at the base. Flowers 6 mm across, yellowish-green in panicles or racemes. Fruit baccate, 2-3.5 cm long, obovoid-oblong, dark purple when ripe.

North-east India. Myanmar.

Uses:

Wood used for boats and tea-boxes.
