Digonestic features:

 

Leaves lance shaped, apex to a stiff point.

Description:

A tree, upto 45 m high, with a trunk 0.8-1.2 m in diameter. Crown dome shaped. Bark thick, resinous. Leaves spirally arranged, lance shaped up to 5 cm long, 0.2-0.5 cm broad, apex narrowing to a long stiff point. Male & Female cones usually on different trees. Male catkin-like, 15-18 cm long, 0.7 cm broad. Female cones erect, elliptical or globose 30 cm long, 23 cm broad.

Fl.: Dec.-Jan. Fr.: June-July.

Distribution:

Native of Australia.

Where to see it:

Pinetum

Uses:

Wood suitable for indoor finish of houses, furniture, carving, and boxes. Pulp suitable for making paper. Seeds eaten after roasting.
